Can you make Urolithin A?

In the study, only 12% of participants had detectable levels of Urolithin A at baseline. After drinking pomegranate juice, about 40% were able to produce meaningful amounts - but this depended on whether their gut microbiome contained the right bacteria. The majority (60%) either produced very little or none at all, showing that diet alone cannot guarantee effective levels.

A clinical study showed that to reach the same level of Urolithin A as one supplement capsule (500 mg), people would need to drink about 1.5 liters of pomegranate juice – the richest natural source. Yet, only around 40% of people can efficiently transform pomegranate compounds into Urolithin A. In contrast, direct supplementation delivered over 6 times higher and consistent Urolithin A levels in everyone.
